While the key to a successful Solar System is the careful integration of all components, proper battery selection is critical for both reducing maintenance and ensuring operation under climate extremes.
A battery in a Solar System must be able to sustain repeated charge/discharge cycles while operating under all temperature extremes in order to provide years of operating life with no maintenance. In addition, it must have high efficiency during charge and discharge, especially at low temperatures in order to maximize usage of solar resources. High quality AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) and GEL (Gelled Electrolyte) batteries for solar applications can both provide the required performance while having the added benefit of increased safety from spills and very low outgas during charging.

For our lighting products, we use a high quality American sourced AGM battery that exemplifies the qualities we look for in a battery for solar applications. For off-grid applications, we use high quality American and Canadian sourced AGM and GEL batteries designed specifically for solar applications. Our carefully selected batteries have higher up-front costs, but provide our customers with years of worry free operation and lower lifetime costs.
